Greenwich

I have always heard about Greenwich being the official time of the world, so I decided to check it out for myself.

I began my day by just wandering around the Thames and into The Old Royal Naval College.  I found the Cutty Sark, which is a famous old merchant ship docked in Greenwich.

Next, I went in to the National Maritime Museum, since all the museums in London are free!  I found the actual uniform that Nelson was wearing when he was shot and killed at the Battle of Trafalgar.

I also stopped at the Queen’s House.  In 1616, King James I, built this for his wife, Anne of Denmark.

I then made my way up to the Royal Observatory.  Its here where I took went through a small museum to learn about the Prime Meridian.  This is where I learned why they put the Prime Meridian here and how Greenwich Mean Time came to be.  It was basically established for the ships to find their longitude location.

Lastly, I went to the Peter Harrison Planetarium and learned about the, “Secret Life of Stars.”

Greenwich is a nice area in South East London, where history plays a large role, time begins, and longitude is 0° 0' 0"!
